Memorial day Visitors!
30 May 2012 | Westsound Marina, Orcas Island, Wa

On memorial day we had visitors from the mainland. My Sister Donna, Brother-in-law JD, Nephew Travis, and two of Travis' friends made the trip from Renton Wa to come spend the day with us and go for a Sail. The weather was a little cool, overcast, and raining as we headed out to Jones Island marine park so we just motored. As we arrived Jones Island the sun was peeking out and the day was looking quite nice. We enjoyed a great picnic on the public dock, the boys took off on a hike and the rest of us enjoyed the gravel and rocky shored beach. We had an entertaining otter just off the beach eating shellfish and showing off his aquatic mastery. The boys on their hike came to within 20 feet of one of the islands numerous deer. Jones island is uninhabited and is a maintained as a Marine park, accessible only by boat. On the way back we raised the sails and with light winds had a leisurely sail back to the Marina. Only 4 souls remained awake as we arrived. I know sailing in light air can be relaxing, but, it probably had more to do with their 0445 departure in order to make the first ferry to Orcas Island. All in all it was a full day for us and our visitors, we all had a great time and added another cherished memory of family and friends. Picture is at the Jones Island dock, JD is holding the camera.
