Moving on to Campbell River

Day Four – Comox, Vancouver Island, BC to Campbell River, Vancouver Island, BC Today was a cool foggy, drizzly, rainy day, we only did 35 miles today as we are planning/timing our next entry through the next set of narrows called the Seymour Narrows, these are a bit trickier to plan for because the are two miles long. The cruising guide says enter at the very beginning of tide change and ride the current going out the narrows. The tide change we need to hit was at 1:11 pm today so we would have had to leave Comox at 4:30 AM to make the 1:10 tide change. I did not want to be tired and foggy-minded after sailing all day so we planned to stop at Campbell river just 8 Nautical Miles south of the Seymour narrows and go through while our senses are fresh, albeit the next day. So now the tide change is for 2:20 pm tomorrow. Weather permitting; we’ll make it through. The weather however is predicted for high wind 15 -20 knots coming down the channel at us, this creates dangerous standing waves in the narrows and in the straits that we will be sailing in, so, we may have to wait out the weather. We’ll see what the report is in the morning. Campbell River is a nice place to hole-up. Everything is within walking distance of the marina. Although, at present it is pretty miserable outside, as the wind and rain have really picked-up. Picture is of Cape Mudge Light house
