Here is a picture of sea lions hauled out on a buoy, leaving Petersburg. Note the effect the current is having on the buoy. We were seeing 11 knots of GPS speed, while the boat is only moving 5.5 knots through the water. That's real nice when your traveling with the current during "spring tides". Not so nice if your trying to go against the current.
