Juneau (Auke Bay)

The lower panhandle is known as Southeast Alaska and also called rain country. We were very fortunate for the 10 strait days of warm clear sunny weather in Ketchikan and making the trip here to Juneau. We got her on Wednesday eve the 29th on the last of the sunny days. It started raining the next day and did not quit until today. So our initial thoughts of Juneau were; cold, wet and gloomy. But what a difference the sunshine makes! It was sunny and warm and the locals came out to play. We see loads of tourist taking sightseeing boats out everyday but today, when the locals came out, the harbor slips were nearly empty. Donna and I have been getting boat work done, had to replace an ailing VHF radio, an important safety item we wanted done before the Gulf crossing, and I had to rebuild the sewer pump that allows us to "pump out" at sea. So we got those done, and replaced our engine battery, all during the rainy days. Today we were able to go for a nice hike around Auke Lake. The sunshine definitely changes the perspective on a place, what a gorgeous place to hike, and boat, and live, "when the sun comes out". But just remember, it doesn't happen very often here.
