Juneau to Funter bay to Hoonah

We left Juneau Monday the 3rd of June for an overnight stay in Funter Bay then on to Hoonah. The ride to Funter bay got a little choppy for the last hour or so as the winds were on our nose and there was a strong chop from the the long "reach" in Chatham Strait. We stayed at a remote public dock and we broke out the fishing poles for the first time. It was just about a fish every cast, mostly juvenile cod about 12 to 14 inches. We did keep two fat 20 inch Dolly Vardens that we made fish burritos with, delicious. Next morning we left at 6 am to catch the morning calm across Chatam strait into Icy Strait. It was not to be. We had 15 knot winds crossing Chatam and good 3 foot chop and swells, with the sails up the boat steadied well and we did ok without it being to uncomfortable. We arrived Hoonah 4 Jun at around noon.
We are still in Hoonah waiting for a good weather window, so we can move on to Elfin cove. Small craft warnings tomorrow, we are staying put! Hoonah is a lot like Valdez only in miniature. Nice community, but because its off the road system everything is expensive. A fish taco at a little stand is $13.00, Gas is $4.65 a gallon. They really rip of the tour boat guest too. A "city" tour is $35.00. When the cruise ships arrive the place is crawling with people and busses and tour vans and gift shops open up. But when the cruise ship leaves its just a quaint little town. But it is real pretty here. Maybe the prettiest place so far. I can't post a picture at this time due to very slow, weak AT&T signal. I'll go to the library tomorrow to post pics. We are told they have Wifi there.
