A new day
15 August 2014 | Chenega Village, Alaska
Mike / a little sun
What a difference a day makes. The sun came out for a couple of hours, the low clouds lifted and we could see what beautiful landscape was around us. The lush green of coastal rain forest with open glades half way up the steep hillsides and jagged peaks on the mountains surrounding the village. I would need a movie camera to capture it all, so you'll just have to take my word for it. Just imagine what the rugged costal Alaska coastal mountains...beautiful. After 7 days of solid rain, clouds, and fog we really needed it.
The weather is calling for Gale warnings tonight and high seas through Saturday. But the forecast for next week is looking real good. Trying to contain our optimism as we've seen it all change before.
Many of the fishermen waiting in Chenega were from the city of Cordova, with no "fishing opener" announced in the past 4 or 5 days many packed up and left today. This dock was stuffed full with boats rafter out 5 deep on the outside dock. Today there many open slips. Our sailboat is the furthest boat out in the slips, dwarfed by the Salmon Seiner next to us. Our raised Salon windows are barely visible.
