In Palermo on Thursday 22nd, after doing the fresh food shopping, and refueling (again) due to too much motorsailing! we left Sicily and started our passage to SARDINIA. We made good time for our crossing & arrived, as planned at 1st light on Saturday 24th to anchor with 3 other yachts, off the marina in Golfo di Carbonara 39 07N 09 30E - a lovely spot. There was action all around us during the afternoon - and we had the best seat in the house to see and enjoy it all. A large canoe race came right through the anchored yachts (clipping our anchor chain) & the local 470 class boats had afternoon racing around the bay. We saw many divers heading out to dive on the protected marine area around the headland. As we were in the Golfo di Carbonara we celebrated our 1st night back in Sardinia since 2002 by having Spaghetti Carbonara for dinner. We had never sailed in the south of Sardinia previously, and found it a lovely cruising ground. We motorsailed across the bay on Sunday 25th to anchor just off the marina at Piccola del Poetto 39 11N 09 09E with 1 other yacht. The beach area was busy with lots of water activities - windsurfing, paddle boards and small boat sailing. There were no suitable anchorages closer to Cagliari, so Piccola del Poetto proved to be a good option and a perfect base for a very enjoyable tourist day and evening in the city of Cagliari on Monday 26th. It was a lovely old city, with the big harbour very prominent. The views from the upper town down to the sea were wonderful. The old, windy, cobbled streets were enjoyable to walk through, and there were not too many other tourists. The local bus transport to and from Piccola, and around the town was very easy. The early morning forecast told us of a blow on the way, so after refueling we sailed back across the bay on Tuesday 27th to return to Golfo di Carbonara. We had a good sail, but had an evening thunderstorm with rain & put out 2 anchors down just to be sure. While waiting for the winds to pass through we made the most of the day on Wednesday 28th we rode our bikes for an afternoon bike ride, for about 3k into the local town of Villasimius to do the weekly shopping - just getting back to the boat in time to miss another thunderstorm.
