IMAGE - Pot-luck dinner
It was not all work and no PLAY. Trinidad had a lot going on and we tried to do at least one special activity or event each week. Our main weekly activities were - Thursday night BBQ dinner at the Crews Inn marina; Friday night BBQ dinner with fellow sailors at our marina. These BBQ get-togethers are called 'pot-luck' dinners. Both Marinas had a large BBQ for communal use and everyone bought their own food to cook themselves on the grill and also everyone bought a salad, starter or dessert dish to share. We enjoyed these evening very much, and it gave us a chance to meet regularly with two different groups of fellow sailors, for a good old chat about local, worldwide and various sailing topics. We also played Mexican Train Dominos every Sunday afternoon, with a changing group of up to 20 to 25 people. Patti won with the lowers score twice - and at our final time of attending James won also - so we both must we getting better players. James met up with another Motor Racing fan - Rick from Voyager, to watch all the Grand Prix races shown on the big screen TV at one of the local marina restaurants. I enjoyed my weekly food shopping trips into the well stocked supermarkets, and the weekly Saturday fruit and veg market in Port of Spain. The big re-stock was also very easy here via a huge bulk food store called Price Smart. Trinidad has many fancy shopping malls full of western fashion and homeware stores - here you can easily feel like you are NOT in the Caribbean, but in mainland USA, GB or Europe.
