St. Augustine Anchorage
04 November 2009 | St. Augustine, FL
Dawn
Tuesday, November 3, we traveled down the Intercostal WaterWay or what folks refur to as "the inside" from Jax, FL to St Augustine. What a shock: The tide changed by seven feet at the rate of 7 Knots (our boat averages 6 Knots when underway and the wind was out of the North at 20knots average. Out of the twenty or so boats anchored none pointed the same direction at any given time so you needed a 360 degree space based on the length of boat plus how much chain you have out from the anchor. It was wild. But thanks to our excellent purchase of a Buegel German made anchor we held firm.
Today, Wed., we traveled to Daytona down the intercostal to find a calm anchorage near the Sea Breeze bridge with only two foot tide current that is less than the wind direction. Poor ole Scooter even got to go ashore and hit every bush he could fing at Captain Jacks resort (great food by the way). Heading for Titusville or Cape Canaveral where we might catch a rocket or shuttle launch.
