Enjoying another job done

14 October 2007 | New Bern, NC - Neuse River

We awoke to a chilly morning. We needed to get a pump-out as well so we had breakfast and then readied the boat to take a trip to the fuel dock. Mr. Bud was a huge help as always.

We made a change in plans as we were prepping to leave the fuel dock. It was such a beautiful day; we decided to go out for a while and let Bessie stretch her legs so to speak. It can't get more nice outside; high 60's to low 70's and slight breeze. We caught several great pictures on a picture-perfect morning.

We made it back safe and sound. As we arrived back, we talked with Roger aboard Game Plan. We have just met them over the last few weekends. They will be heading out this week toward Miami, FL (homebase for them). Stops in Charleston, St. Augustine should put them in Miami in about three weeks. We wish them fair winds and calm seas.

After readying for our departure to Cary, we called it another weekend.

Just a note the Captain received both "A's" for backing out of the slip, getting over to the fuel dock for pump out safely, and pulling the Lady back into the slip after our little trip. Ken is doing a great job.

Dingy and New Jib Sheets

After a great breakfast sandwich prepared by the Galley Queen, we headed to West Marine to talk about running rigging. We have some chafe on the Jib sheets and the Main Halyard.

We ordered 600 ft of line from New England Ropes and purchased two replacement Jib sheets. The bulk line will be in next week.

Back aboard, I changed out the Jib Sheets. These are the main lines used to control the tension on the forward sail (Jib). You can see them in the picture, coiled and hanging on the bow spirit rail.

Next came the pirate flag. We have this large flag that Pam selected when were in Corolla recently that has a large pirate skull on it with the words "Surrender the Booty". We laugh at the different looks that it raises...Yaaarrh! Check the pictures in the Gallery.

Next came the dingy. When Gabriel blew in; we had deflated the dingy and stored it in the car. We now unpacked and inflated it; installing the rigid floor. We started attempting to do this on the bow of the boat but soon moved to the dock in search of a flat surface with which to work.

Once the dink was back together, it received a much needed bath. Finally after getting everything cleaned and back together; Pam and I took a leisurely row around the Marina; a beautiful day!

We had dinner of steak and shrimp; yum...

Boy was it cold this morning, but my electric blanket did work quite well. Like Ken said he wanted to make the weekly guy trip to West Marine but I wanted to stop off at the farmers market in New Bern so we headed off. As we were walking toward the dockmasters office we noticed that there was a bookbag on the steps and commented on it and went about our chores. I really wanted to visit the farmers market in order to get some fresh veggies so I was ready for the picken. Unfortunately this weekend is Mumfest. The market really did not have that much to pick from so I left empty handed. We walked around the festival and got to see one of Dale Jr.'s #8 cars along with Jimmie Johnson's #48 car. That was pretty cool. This made Jeff and Wes jealous (we got a "cool" out of Brad). After this we went on to West Marine and got everthing we needed.

When we got back to the marina we walked back past the dockmasters office and there sat that bag. I told Ken the bag sure did look alot like my bag, but my bag was on the boat. I said "Ken you did put my bag on the boat didn't you?" We got back to the boat and I immediately starting looking for my bag and guess what it was not there! After much laughing from Ken we both walked up there and I looked inside and sure enough there was my sweatsuit and brown "Got Rum" shirt. By this time Ken was really laughing and being loud about how "I lost my bag" and etc.. I told him that's why I am here is for his enjoyment!!

After all of this we had lunch and then went to work and Ken has already talked about. That dingy was a chore to put back together but at least we now know how everything works. After putting the dingy back into the water Ken rowed me around the marina since it was a beautiful day. We ended our "work" day around 4pm and just sat back enjoying the view and talking with neighbors.

Tonights movie is Captain Ron.

Pam received her tag this week. See the picture. This helps us remember where we want to be and our goals for the future. Plus it drives a lot of conversations as most folks in Cary are curious.

We got a late start due to my work and Pam's to-do list was still long. A busy week had left us behind schedule with many family responsibilities left to do: Groceries, Brad's Alergy shots; etc..

We stopped on the way at New Bern's Wal-Mart super Store and purchased supplies. They had some great looking shrimp and Pam was whining about needing a heater. We also found her a Heated Blanket; this should quieten her down a bit..

We arrived at the Lady in Red a little after 7pm; it is already dark. Loading the boat in the dark was fun; you never know if you have everything...

We had a Wal-mart chicken, Green Beans and Uncle Ben's rice for dinner and there was nothing left of the whole chicken after Pam and I dug in...Very good.

Good to be back aboard. We had a mechanic aboard during the week and had the throttle/shifter cable replaced; I am eager to see how it works.

Goal for the week is to re-inflate the dinghy and to start on the running rigging replacement items.

As Ken said, I was able to check several things off my to-do list. I can't say more good things regarding Coastal Marine in New Bern, NC. I called them on Monday and they were out to the boat by Wednesday. Even though they had to order a part they had the boat fixed and running by Friday. Also I contacted Mikes Dive Service for the bottom cleaning. It seems that we have pretty salty water where we are so I have set it up that they come and clean the bottom every month.

Normally I get to our local food store and do our supply shopping before Ken is ready to depart, but this day was different. It took us longer at the Doctor for Brad's allergy shot so that threw my plans out the window. I figured that Walmart in New Bern would work. Little did I know that everyone goes shopping on Friday nights, they were busy! We got everything we needed and more and loaded up the car and headed to the marina. I really don't think we have this packing thing down yet. We seem to always bring more then is needed hopefully we will get better at that. When we got to the marina it was well past sun down so we loaded everything in the dock cart that we "thought" we had. Loading everything on the boat went well and dinner was great.

The movie for tonight was Surfs Up. It was really funny. We have to make sure Brad watches it.
