Not quite a mahi mahi

Well, we arrived at about 10.00pm. Not bad really we didn't touch the engine until we got to the south end of Efate where the wind dropped. It was a fast trip but we had to do some additional miles because the wind was directly behind us.
We finally hooked a magnificent mahi mahi, 20 lb plus. After a long fight in mountainous seas we got the fish to the stern of the boat. The beautiful fish looked up as I prepared the gaff hook, found the position just below the gills - raised the hook to bring it down. Bang! a rogue wave lifted the fish, slammed it into the boat, the hook slipped out and she was away.
So the fish definitely won on this trip. We landed one tuna, threw it back because it was too small, lost a lure to a massive behemoth, and just missed a perfect mahi mahi. Still it can only get better.
We've anchored off the waterfront for the night. It's all amazingly quiet, and the night approach was amazingly easy. Tomorrow we will call customs and go through the usual formalities, find a mooring buoy and head ashore for the delights of Port Vila.
