Lamen Bay

We sailed to Lamen Bay with Kerry leaving behind the coral reefs of Lelepa Island. The passage is quite a long one heading North through the volcanic islands, all in all about 60 miles. Lamen Bay had quite a few boats when we arrived since there had just been some races of the local dug-out canoes. In Epi and the Maskelyne islands they use a small sail on the outriggers, an unusual feature in this part of the South Pacific.
Just diving off the boat we immediately spotted a turtle happily feeding by the anchor, and a short swim away we found the dugong happily grazing along the bottom with small fishes attached to it cleaning its skin. He is called 'Bondas'. On the short but spectacular swim we also spotted five or so other turtles grazing on the sea bed and then bobbing up for air. An awesome experience.
