On your Bike
28 July 2008 | Isle des Pins

We are back in the Bay of Prony. We are just south of Ile Casy on a mooring buoy. There are two buoys on the north end of the island to protect the coral. It is quite an amazing bay, so large, yet we can see one boat anchored in a bay on a far shore and that's it. Apart from the nickel mine, but even though it scars the hills it doesn't really impinge on the landscape.
On the other hand it is quite lonely as well.
We had quite a bumpy crossing since the sea hadn't settled down completely after the storm, and the wind remained at about 20 knots South Westerly, so very difficult to sail it. We sailed it but had to have some engine assistance as we bumped along. The seas were a bit too rough to spot whales but we did see some whales spouting. But no spectacular displays like on our previous crossings.
Once inside the bay it is completely flat, sheltered by reefs.
Tomorrow we will be going on to Noumea to berth the boat at the marina.
