Approacing Opua
22 October 2008 | Off New Zealand
Jackie and Michael
We are on the last lap now towards Opua. Going down the East side of the North Island. We had a superb sunset last night. Some people scoff at the notion of green flashes. Last night we had a clear sky the sun dropped with a green flash and then just to make sure it gave off a second green flash.
We saw the Knights Islands first, at about 7.00 am. As we approached the mainland the sea teemed with life. Lots of birds and fish. At one point, near the the North Cape the water boiled with fish.
At about midday a customs spotter plane buzzed us and demanded to know who we were. They said it was just routine. It has been a glorious sunny day, just a trifle cool.
We expect to be in Opua about midnight.
