Not Entirely Paradise
04 February 2009 | West Lemmon Cays, Islas San Blas, Panama
Mike
We have returned to our previous anchorage at West Lemmon Cays after Monday's mandatory check-in with Panama Immigration and Customs at Porvenir, about 3 miles west of here. We were expecting some problems from the Panamanian officials because of our tardy check-in but they were very accommodating. Then, after a short dinghy ride to an adjacent island for some supplies and a SIM chip for the cell phone we returned to West Lemmon Cays, just ahead of the predicted 3-4 days of squalls. Apparently this was day one. The skies have been overcast and the winds have been blowing 25+ knots all day long, with intermittent showers. On the plus side, the wind turbines have given us all the electricity needed for battery charging and water making. Before the day is over our water tanks will be filled to their 157 gallon capacity. What to do on days like this? We read, plan, sleep, practice guitar and Spanish and watch from our cockpit whatever activity may be occurring in the anchorage. Not much physical activity thought. A good thing we did some snorkeling yesterday off a nearby reef. I expect that we will be moving about the islands again, once the squalls subside. Maybe even loop back to Narguana where there is internet access for loading photos into this blog.
