Time to go back west

The mooring buoys (boys?) at Levitha
Anyone who's been paying attention, will have noticed that since we left the Sporades in the middle of May, we have generally been heading south and east. Well it's got to stop. We have a winter berth booked for Lazy Pelican in Boat Club again which is an hour north of Athens and we have visitors arriving in two weeks time 'somewhere in the western Cyclades'. The Meltemi, still blowing from the north and west, has been our friend so far but now we have to check the forecast carefully to see if there are days that we can progress westwards. There is a tiny island, less than a kilometre long called Levitha, which is 20 miles west of Leros and will break the journey to Amorgos. We leave Leros in quiet conditions, but by the time we've rounded the eastern tip of Levitha we struggle to make headway against the 25knot winds - and are very happy to reach the tiny anchorage with pick-up buoys - that are really easy to pick up!
