This yacht was too big to be in here - it went over a buoy and got it caught in the boats propeller - the harbour master (aka the farmer/fisherman/taverna owner), had to dive to get it all sorted out.
We bought Lazy Pelican - a 2006 Bavaria 39 - in November 2008 with the intention of cruising in the Eastern Mediterranean. The question then arose of how to get her there from Poole on the South Coast of England! Our main sailing experience was 5 years cruising in Croatia where we enjoyed short day [...]
sails followed by time exploring ashore. We decided to try and replicate this style of cruise as far as we could - and the project to day sail to Turkey was born!
We started off in June 2009 with a shakedown cruise to the Isles of Scilly. We were very lucky - we know people who've sailed the south coast for years and never made it further west than Dartmouth! Later in 2009, we crossed the channel and cruised the north and west coast of Brittany, leaving Lazy Pelican in Redon, on the Vilaine river, for the winter. In 2010 we made it as far as Povoa de Varzim in Northern Portugal and by winter 2011 we were in Cartagena in Southern Spain. In 2012 we made it as far as Marina di Ragusa in Sicily. Last year (2013) we made it the Ionian - and we like it so much that we're spending 2014 there as well! Look on the side panel if you're interested to see details of all our stopping places.
