Moudros - remembering WW1

Moudros has a tired, deserted air. There’s not a lot at the harbour now except a few tavernas and a shop selling fertiliser. Up the hill in the village there’s a couple of little mini markets, but not much else. It’s located at the head of a large shallow bay. During WW1, it’s proximity to Gallipoli, made it an ideal anchorage where the ships of the allied forces gathered and for the positioning of military hospitals that took the wounded as they returned from the disastrous campaign. There are a few photos of the bay full of ships and the remains of hospital buildings are still visible. We spend an evening with 3 New Zealand and Australian boats, who have come to visit the beautifully kept, commonwealth cemetery which records the sacrifices made by so many.
