A Movie Buff - As in Rough

25 September 2016 | 100 miles West King Island Tasmania, 120 miles South of Portland Victoria
When last I here wrote the menacing shipwreck shore of Southern Tasmania loomed large and magnificent and yes dangerous, but what would have been to the relief of the great sea captains of the age of sail also befell L'Eau Commotion with a lift that had us sailing almost to the lee of Matsuyker Island, a tack out to sea and then a great run to the NorthWest through the night. Regular checks of it's light through the night had us well off the coast by dawn but in a short while the breeze died away leaving a heavy SW swell so all sails were doused. My computerised PredictWind weather model showed a totally windless day but with abundant sunshine to keep the batteries topped up I dove into my treasure trove of movies.
Last trip it so happened of the many discs I had only two worked - Dan in Real Life, pure Hollywood to be sure but Hollywood at its best and another bit of that suburb so bad it has, with difficulty been exsponged from my memory. Yes the spelling is correct. It has been cleaned up but a smear remains.
This sad tale fell onto the enterprising ears of my daughter, a keen member of the Olympia gym in Brisbane and a little note of my plight was put in a small basket pleading my case. Now the response was overwhelming so I now have a library of over 300 sets of discs and have now just gotten round to sampling them. The Godfather One,Two and Three. Yes I said SETS! It was so rolly with all sails stowed I had to watch Godfather One standing up and I swear it even made the Scotch that Marlon poured slosh in the glass. Most enjoyable but the subsequent series did not attain that standard. I just love the genre of the What Might Have Been - Doors, Back to the Future - sort of thing and yes though a lightweight "Suddenly Thirty" fitted my mood perfectly after those rather oppressive sequels.
So thank you you good people of the Olympia gym. With the SilentWind generator purring out the amps I look forward to another great night at the movies.
