Tidying Up
06 August 2017
After breakfast and the mandatory caffeine hit the work began. The sea anchor still being out I was able to move around the deck unencumbered and yes it was the inner forestay that had broken. Everything was fairly straightforward but ropes were needed here and there to steady the mechanism and of course stop the lot from sliding overboard. Once on the deck the sail was unfurled and was easily slid off the track bagged and stowed away. The frayed wire stay needed a little manicure so the rigid aluminium foil sections could be slid off and the whole thing then bundled up and strapped to the pushpit. By this time the wind had died away completely and it was time to pull in the sea anchor. Very hard to winch in against the swell but a meter or two taken up easily at a particular time as the big swells rolled by. The chute itself was no problem - just grab a couple of the lines and it slowly spilled the water and brought aboard. And then to tidy up as there were ropes everywhere but now everything is fairly neat. I didn't put the small staysail on the forestay as there appears to be big stretches of fairly light weather ahead and I might try partially roller reefing then stowing away as the weather gets heavier. --------------090002060203060703060509--
