Dad's Day
03 September 2017 | 960 Miles West of Kalbarri WA
11:30pm Sunday 3rd September 2017 ( UTC+7 ) A perfect day for doing things dads do best. First up a spot of fishing. That nothing was caught was beside the point. The encouragement was there with the previous plastic skirt and hook chewed up and spat out by some piscatorial epicure, choosing and rigging an alluring lure over coffee set the tone for the day. A tiny shower formed an almost complete circular rainbow with L'Eau Commotion at its centre as a particularly palatable porridge was being prepared and the fishing begun. It was now time to see if the self steering wind vane could be improved, and an elegant solution evolved using the very limited resources available. Working at a leisurely pace, freeing up corroded nuts and threads and being very careful not to drop anything in the water as it is over 4 kilometres deep, the system was trimmed and tweaked in glorious sunshine, while in between times the electric auto pilot kept the miles spinning away. Full privileges were asserted, being very late for lunch and a taking a post prandial nap, and only then acknowledging the best wishes from my lovely daughters for a very special Fathers Day.
