Set and Forget
11 September 2017
1:00am Tuesday 12th September 2017 ( UTC+5 ) The full jib alone served well until early Monday morning when the increasing swell and slackening breeze started to throw the wind out of the sail, so it was time to properly set up the spinnaker pole. By this I mean rigging it independent of the jib with uphaul and both fore and back stays and an independent third sheet for the jib. In this way the jib can be poled out, furled or set as a standard jib on either side and the pole lowered, all basically from the cockpit. To the purist I know this is like harnessing a thoroughbred up as a cart horse, but it is does stop L'Eau Commotion from galloping off in whatever direction the wind or her fancy takes her and instead has her steadily trotting along the desired path. So steady in fact that the driver dozed off in his seat and forgot to write up this blog till now, the wee small hours of the morning.
