Rigging, Again

18 September 2017
8:30pm Monday 18th September 2017 ( UTC+4 ) As dusk fell so inevitably it seems did the wind. I put up with the slapping of the sails for an hour or so then furled the jib and dropped the main into the lazy jacks and settled in for a night of an unpleasant jerky motion. It was not until dawn was approaching that the faint hum of the wind generator announced the arrival of sufficient wind to fill the jib. It was still there after coffee and porridge so up with the main. Almost to the top by hand on the halyard but not quite so a little snig on the winch to finish it off - but no. A glance up the mast saw the problem - the double halyard had gone around the upper shroud and caught under the spinnaker block. OK. Ease of the tension and lower the main, except it was thoroughly snarled and wouldn't budge. Downhaul, reef line tension shake and then panic. Do I have to climb the mast? No way. Perhaps running downwind. Yep! A bit of slack and a simple whip and all was right again as up went the main. Then the real problem came to the fore. In my zeal after breakfast I had adjusted the time zone from +5 to +4 UTC ( Mauritius Time! ) so I had to wait an extra hour for my much needed elevenses of coffee and Scotch Fingers.
