Inner Forestay

24 September 2017
8:30pm Sunday 24 September 2017 ( UTC+4 ) I noted the mast fitting of the running back stay had the same dimensions as the inner forestay self furler which failed a few days ago and decided to try to fit this high strength fibre as an inner forestay. To this end I made up a rope ladder but an attempt to use it in less than ideal conditions was abandoned till a more suitable day arrived. And today was the day with gentle breezes over the last few days with diminishing swell and just enough wind to steady the roll with the jib and full main both backed to windward. The ladder was set up using what I thought was a pretty good tension using the inner halyard and winch but once I was well into the climb it really stretched so I was thrown around a bit and hence the claret stains you may notice on the mainsail. Aside from the bumps and jerks and bits of bark of here and there it went relatively smoothly so I now have an inner forestay which will be handy to steady the mast and also to set the storm jib which has eyes and l ashings on the luff. Those with a gallows sense of humour may count thirteen steps in the ladder in the picture. I may be bold but not stupid. There are sixteen ( 16 ) steps in the complete ladder. Why tempt fate? --------------040109090800030601040704--
