A Quiet Day
01 October 2017 | 650 Miles East of Port Elizabeth South Africa
8:00pm Sunday 1st October 2017 ( UTC+3 ) As you can see progress has been very slow but nonetheless pleasant. I thought I had got through the blue hole as at sunrise the wind swung abruptly from NW to South so with full main and jib made a nice calm 4 knots plus until lunchtime when it became fitful and completely died at 1:00pm. The slatting and banging set in so all sails were stowed and a few little jobs done. I took in the washing, did a permanent job on the inner forestay, replaced the steering lines and put a couple more turns on the drum of the self furling jib. Simple jobs but all made much easier in calm weather. I've just put up the sails again on a promise of 6 to 8 knots on the beam through the night but we're just hanging in there with the occasional lull and flap. As I type I hear a little chuckle of water on the hull and yes 4 knots on the speedo so looking forward to a quiet but productive night.
