30 October 2017 | 1595 Miles to Hierro
6:00pm Monday 30th October 2017 ( UTC-2 ) Phew! It's getting warm. Crossed the Equator towards midnight last night and neither I nor King Neptune bothered to get up for the occasion. For him he's only interested in newbies and for me there's not much to see at that time of night. As the sun got fiercer - very good for the solar panels - the wind fell away to six or 8 knots. That's at the masthead mind you and I had no inclination to find out if it was more refreshing up there than in the stifling cabin. There was just enough wind keep the full main from slatting and the asymmetrical out on the same Port side kept drawing away so we achieved close to 5 knots and were never becalmed. The boom vang ( that's the fitting that goes from under the boom to the base of the mast and keeps the boom from lifting ) was on the list of todo's . I was catching a breath of fresh air just on sunset and thought I'd sus out the problem, the solution of which I was dreading. To my surprise a good sound solution was found and instigated in the 30 minutes between sunset and too dark to see. It's good but I might just add a finishing touch tomorrow and perhaps a photo. As far as progress goes we're about eight days ahead of Katherine Ann crossing the Equator. I've put in Hierro , which is the nominated turn point, as the goal. While no serious weather is expected they will all be solid slugging miles to windward. The Fishing. I'm forced to admit the brutes ignored my presentation .
