Transat Jacques - Fabre Yacht Race
12 November 2017 | 450 Miles to Hierro
6:00pm Sunday 12th November 2017 ( UTC-2 ) From enquiries made my daughter Katherine it is almost certain that the yacht I spoke to yesterday was taking part in the Transat Yacht Race which started last Sunday from Le Havre in France and will finish at Salvador in Brazil. Indeed today Aina Solo Sailor passed just ahead of me by about half a mile with her huge white spinnaker filled by the very light breeze making about 8 to 9 knots. The last day or so the VHF channel 16 and others have been filled with French chatter. I at first wondered about this as I initially thought it was Portuguese fisherman out of the Canaries but could well be Brazilian competitors. I believe there are 13 competitors all in Vendee Globe 60 footers. For me the sailing has been very pleasant but quite slow but as I write this the promised swing to the East is taking place. It has been indicated since lunch time as the sky changed from brilliant blue and sunny to rather hazy and dull. The forecasts are still there for a quiet but steady run to H ierro, albeit somewhat uphill. --------------010900080404020509050406--
