Desalagain
03 December 2017 | 445 Miles to the Equator
5:00pm Sunday 3rd December 2017 UTC-2 ) First the sailing. Absolutely divine. I guess I should shake out one reef in the main for maybe another half knot but as there are lots of jobs to do this steady 6 knots with no round ups or spray is the beez neez. Hardly any dust, the weed a distant memory, nice fluffy cu's and a gentle swell - what more could one ask for. Well, in a word, water. I gave the e 40 Katadyn one last dismal chance but the product was saltier than Friday nights chips. I was asked by v&s whether I have a seal kit and I'm pretty sure I do. I'm also pretty sure it's not on board. Now I do know I have a manual Katadyn 35 because only last week I stowed it neatly away under six months supply of provisions. So some heavy lifting. Imagine my excitement when I opened up the styrofoam box and saw that it did actually contain what I had ordered from the net and the good old boys of the US of A. Eagerly searching for the date I recorded 12/17/91. H'mm - not one of the newer ones at 26 years old and probably out of warranty. A note on their website waffled on about getting a new membrane and having it serviced yearly and so on but you can safely ignore all this knowing how litigious those Septics can be. I cut in to the plumbing of the e40 with its little 1 amp booster pump, operated the lever for 20 strokes or so and had a sneaky trial sip. Not bad...... A steady resolute and firm feeling to the lever and 2 cupfuls later - sweet as. Just shows you the importance of meticulous planning for a trip like this by remembering to order one. One more thing. Thanks to Tim at Sailblogs, Stief s and " ***** " at Anarchists Anon your blog comments are forwarded on to me so if this all gets to be a bit much - just let me know!
