A Sense of Urgency and the Genius That Was Einstein

06 December 2017 | 65 Miles North of the Equator
11:30am Wednesday 6th December 2017 ( UTC-2 ) With the continuing steady ESE breeze and the non threatening puffy cumulus clouds, plus of course the official Brazilian forecast of the ITCZ being around 7 degrees North and PredictWind showing a nice clear run, it is pretty certain we're through the doldrums. This is all very well but it also means we will soon be out of the tropics and I will have more important things at hand, namely getting us through the Horse Latitudes, than musing on the State of the Universe. So while the tropical sun beats down on my bewildered brain I continue on my essay as why I consider Einstein pure Genius. Having slightly rearranged the formula for Kinetic Energy by dropping the fraction and changing v to c to the acclamation of the general public he must have thought I'll need something a bit more complicated to get me out of this dingy office. And herein lies his true Genius. With the help of his first wife, a brilliant mathematician, he came up with the General Theory of Relativity and its associated set of Einstein's Field Equations. By introducing things like SpaceTime and WorldLines into a set of unsolvable and therefore totally meaningless equations he created an Industry in the Physics Departments of all the great universities which continues to this day, a hundred years after their first promulgation. When I say unsolvable just look up " Exact Solutions to Einsteins Field Equations " The first thing you will note is that they are known to be unsolvable except by using certain sets of assumptions, and then goes on to list a huge and ever increasing set of unprovable assumptions.Well does this really matter you may well ask on the premise that by making these assumptions useful but not necessarily proven information will result. But here's the rub. We have as a result two entirely contradictory views of the state of the Universe. One / That everything is attracted to everything else in the Universe and Two/ That everything is flying apart from everything else in the Universe. That a Third possibility could exist, namely that neither is correct, is not even considered as the assumptions made in the solutions are specifically formulated to exclude this most likely outcome. It is now time to check whether lunch is on the line.
