Rounded Cape Horn

27 January 2018 | 15 Miles South of Cape Horn
4:00pm Saturday 27th September 2018 ( UTC-4 ) As the moon reached about 30 degrees above the horizon it was noted from the low scud of around 1000' that the wind was quite fresh from the North West but at sea level an Easterly prevailed. Through the night the wind though never strong swung about erratically so an anxious night was had considering the Current was up to 3 knots at times. It settled to an East to North fresh breeze to give a good run to the Cape at 11:00am then shortly after to the North West and now is strong from the WNW. We were called up by the lighthouse and exchanged information and pleasantries with a well spoken Chilean Navy Officer. At present I am planning a route to try and dodge a 50 knot blow from the North West predicted in a day or so; it was this sort of wind that caused me grief a couple of years back.
