L'Eau Commotion Westabout

2:30pm Monday 12th February 2018 ( UTC-5 ) Even though I said I was putting L'Eau Commotion in the hove to position, that is with minimum sail and a rudder set about 10 degrees to Port the yacht still made just over 3 knots at about 90 to 100 degrees off the true wind. This used up a little of my hard won Westing but on a course of about 020T it certainly was good to see the latitude reducing. With the wind easing from around 35 knots to 25 knots at lunch time just a little more jib was unfurled and Northerly progress continues. I think I will stay on this tack tonight with a surge of 35 knots NW forecast and make up the Westing at a future time. Occasionally a little weak sun has the cabin at a more or less comfortable 10C and we are now longer getting pushed sideways with the odd wave breaking over the cabin and putting a foot or so of water in the cockpit which soon drained away. Still gouging out the olive ( oil ) chunks but the delicious hot fried rice makes that extra effort worthwhile.
