Stuck In The One Spot

06 June 2018 | 40 Miles South of Puerto Montt
9:00pm Wednesday 6th June 2018 ( UTC-5 )
After making some good miles during the night the wind eased a little from 8:00am and by 9:00am had completely died away and there was not a breath of air till just a while ago so now we are just ghosting along under single reefed main and staysail. A point of interest was a mother and calf of a humpback whale who passed ever so slowly by. I had shifted the lnflatable life raft to the cockpit floor to allow better access to the WindPilot which was fortunate as I noticed the push pull rod from the wind vane to the steering paddle had broken. I have a spare and it was fairly simple to find where I had stowed it and install. Not a hard job but a little nerve racking as I only have a few spare bits and it is easy to drop something while standing on the swim platform. It is times like these you notice how large the swell actually is and the amount of rolling and pitching going on with the Yacht under bare poles. Again to my surprise I found the lock down pin for the Hydrogenerator and installed it with a nylon safety line. I also removed the top batten of the mainsail which had opened up a considerable tear in its pocket. So to reward myself for all these good deeds and for compensation for being stuck in the one spot I heated up my Sticky Toffee Pudding. I did read the ingredients but no need to repeat them - just everything our mothers told us was bad for us. Yummy!
