An Uncomfortable Afternoon

I have been asked when I expect to be arrive back in Southport and this is a question I often ask myself. When Iâm romping along with a fresh quartering breeze six weeks seems to be a good guess at the elapsed time and then there are days like today. Though the weather is pleasant the breeze gradually eased before lunch and swung more to the South East. Now I could have changed to a Starboard reach and tracked pretty well on course going West but there is that nemesis of mine, the Kryptonite of the Kruising Yachtsman, the dreaded Blue Hole about to rise from the deep or actually descend from the heavens above that I wish to avoid even at the cost of going a day out of my way. The seas have been by no means rough but the change in direction and strength of the wind makes for lots of lumps and the attendant Thwack! and judder as what wind there is is thrown out of he mainsail brings out a certain sensitivity in me regarding the stranding of standing rigging. Consequently to keep the peace the course is now more to the North than I would have wished but all is now serene again in the motion of LâEau Commotion. But back to the question. At an estimated average speed of 5.35 knots it should take 50 days putting me at the Gold Coast Seaway Transit at 12:00Noon Eastern Standard Time on Friday 20th August 2018, which by some strange coincidence is exactly three months after leaving Stanley, which I told everyone was the time I would most likely be at sea. Sad to say I lost my second last BarraBuster lure as it did one too many somersaults and kinked the trace wire. I have had a red and white plastic squid out for most of the day but with no success, so in consolation I shouted myself a robust meal of Meat And Vegetables With Dumplings. Top Gear.
