Whatâs to say about the sailing thatâs different to yesterday or the day before or the day after tomorrow? Not very much. There is just enough fluctuation in the wind strength and direction and the variability in the sea state, which surprisingly is not that closely related, to assuage my conscience in not flying the kite. Maybe when I seek such excitement as to be had from trying to unwrap a spinnaker from around a forestay or a saildrive I will give it a burl but feel no pressing need at present with the average speed approaching six knots and my only firm engagement being at 4:40am on Saturday the 21st of August 2018 ( UTC+10 ). And as to Martinâs recollection of me spending time on The Reef he is perfectly correct as my experience as a professional fisherman began there some 74 years ago and has occupied half my working life but I am by no means an authority. Itâs getting late now so perhaps in the next day or so I might make a note of the changes I have seen.
