One of the most frustrating things brought about by the unseasonable weather over the last month or so is that whenever I think of stating a conclusion to my various meanderings of the mind I get distracted by the meanderings of LâEau Commotion. So in what I think will be my last full day at sea for a while I will put forward my views on the Universe. I will first start off with whatâs not. The Universe did not have a beginning and will not end. There is no such thing as gravitational attraction and consequently no neutron stars or black holes or Gravitational Waves. The Universe is neither contracting nor expanding. The Universe does not consist of 74% Hydrogen and does not convert itself into Helium and then fizzle out to a cold grey nothing. Thatâs whatâs not so what have we got? The Universe has always been there and will continue forever. It is limitless in extent which of course means there is no such thing as infinity. The Sun and stars are made up of material much the same as Planet Earth or Mars or Venus or Jupiter or Saturn but due to their size allow for continuous nuclear fission and the outgoing energy of them all result in the repulsive force we call gravity. This force pervades all space but is shielded by other bodies such that they are forced together as seen in Galaxies as a whole and binary stars in particular which eventually collide with a mighty explosion strewing chunks of rocks and Iron and Nickel every where to form great clouds of dust and meteors and comets which are forced together to form Suns and stars and planets much like our own. And so on.
