The filter was clogged so the spare was installed and the motor started first up. After a few odds and ends were completed we continued motoring towards Southport but after half an hour the warning buzzer sounded. The first thought was the oil but this was up to level and clear but the header tank was steamed up and no water in it. Once the engine had cooled a bit it was found impossible to keep the tank topped up even though the the oil level and cleanliness did not change. I spoke to Troy Booker at Booker Marine and though it is difficult to make an assessment without pressure testing and expert examination it would appear that it is the heat exchanger which has failed, so the plan is to sail back to Scarborough over the next few days, patch up the Penta and Head West.
