William Hatfield | Light Southerly
8pm Thursday 6th June 2019
Picked up the cool SouWester after rounding the reef beacon at Scarborough and a close reach with wind speeds around 14 knots got me to Peel island averaging close to 7 knots under sail. The wind swung abruptly to a Southerly once the influence of the Brisbane valley was passed so it was motoring for the rest of the way. It was interesting that the tidal stream was favourable for the whole trip except for the final couple of miles once South of the Gold Coast Seaway arriving just before 4pm from a 6am departure. I put in 63 litres of diesel, the first top up since the Falkland Islands so now have 100 litres of diesel for electricity and 100 litres of Methylated spirits for cooking and heating water for hot water bottles. The schedule now is to have Border Force clear me at 8am Saturday and try for an official start at 12 noon from the end of the Gold Coast Seaway.
