Looking for The Current
12 June 2019 | 25 Miles East South East of Port Kembla
Day 5 8pm Wednesday 12th June 2019
I had set the alarm for 4am but it did not go off but a gentle chuckle alongside the hull told me it was time to get up and get going. In the pre dawn darkness a gentle Northerly of around 4 knots and a helping current soon had me making 4 knots with the shaken out full main and jib. This required a bit of a slant to put the apparent wind on the beam and after consultation with the wind gods and some burnt ( coffee ) offerings they advised me to hold my course steady and verily I would be rewarded with many favourable currents once I made it to the continental shelf. Many burnt offerings placed reverently over the side and still no currents but in compensation the wind freshened with full daylight and has stayed steady from the North all day at around 18 knots which is being handled admirably by the autopilot once I put the first reef in the main and eased the jib. Looking forward to a continuing good run down to Gabo. Travelling at 7 to 8 knots it's just a bit fast for the spoon so still no fishes.
