Setting Up L'Eau Commotion

14 June 2019 | 15 Miles SSE of Gabo Island
Day 7 3pm Friday 14th June 2019
Soon after leaving Montague Island we connected with the South going current which was all of two knots for a good but anxious sail through the night. Whilst there was plenty of shipping the main concern were a couple of trawlers which with their nets down of course have the right of way; besides, with their brilliant deck lights their ability to detect the puny tricolour masthead lights is nil. Of course I could have gone on an opposite tack and cleared them completely but that South going current had a certain seduction. The wind and current completely fell away by dawn so since then I have been gently tacking towards the West in light variable winds from the NW quadrant.
I mentioned previously about power supply for the autopilot so here is a shot of the Watt & Sea hydro generator as installed in the Falklands. You may see on the top of the Windpilot the carbon reinforced plywood wind vane which had just been broken by 70 knot winds in Stanley Harbour - this by way of excuse for not setting up the hydro generator closer to the centreline and lower down. I have just taken a shot of the machine in it's more appropriate position - continued in the next post
