Quite an anxious night last night as there are a few unlit rocks and shoals just to the south of King Island and with the expected front forecast to pass through any time between midnight and dawn you wouldn't want to be caught napping. The autopilot was set to get the best out of the wind so a gentle reverse in wind direction could have you close on a lee shore. As it was the wind eased in the dark around 6am and then settled in to a blustery SSW which had me using the autopilot for much of the day under double reefed main alone and heading a little to the North of the recommended course to ease the banging. I'm now back on the Windpilot with double reefed main and staysail in blustery showers with wind ranging from 9 to 29 knots but all seems to be going well.
