Day 18 8pm Tuesday 25th June 2019
After quite a few hours of winds approaching 35 knots the calms that set in from midnight were not entirely unwelcome. I had furled the jib and centred the main so the slight heave of a gentle breeze in the predawn darkness had me keen to go again. The breeze was fickle so it was over an hour later under a gentle Northerly that I had her squared away and on course. By lunch the occasional gust to twenty knots saw one reef in the main and the full jib and us cruising along ever so comfortably at close to 7 knots. Pancakes for lunch with just a smear of vegemite and some with golden syrup was topped off with some rich hot cocoa. I boil a cup of rice each second day and the second half this evening I fried up with a little olive oil, grated carrot and a small tin of Aldi chicken. Jesse put me on to an exotically labelled Tuong of Sriracha hot Chile sauce with lots of Chinese writing which you would only expect to find in a tiny store in the back streets of Kowloon. Reading the fine print you will discover that it's really made in the Good Ole USA, but believe me that big red rooster on the label really livened up the little chicken.
