Day 24 8pm Monday 1st July 2019 ( UTC+8 )
I guess the main features of today's sail were a large but smooth South Westerly swell averaging 6 metres and an East going current topping 2 knots at times - the forecast was 1.6 knots 110 degrees True. As an adjunct to this the sea temperature rose from 16.1 degrees at 6am to 19.8 at noon today and with time of day normally having no effect on temperature this is clearly some of the warmer Indian Ocean waters being forced South round Cape Leeuwin. Only at sunset was the second reef let out as the swells tend to augment the somewhat gusty 20 to 25 knot breeze. Anyhow these are my excuses for the 3 knot average speed though sailing at above 5 knots through the water, with the occasional splash and bang. I'll proceed on a closer inshore course to try to dodge the currents but at the same time avoiding a Shakespearean tragedy on the shores of a dark and dank Denmark
