Day 35 8pm Friday 12th July 2019
The quite large flying fish was consumed with relish ( Sriracha Hot Chile ) and renewed efforts made to capture their main predator the Mahi Mahi. The 4# Barra spoon had just broken its trace after one too many backflips as it skidded and tumbled over the surface so a red and white plastic squid with 3 8/0 stainless steel ganged hooks on 150lb steel trace was set. I only have a few of these but often made up ones from red and white cloth and cable ties work just as well. A little disappointed to see I had put a small tear in the BiSymmetric near the top on the Starboard ( green ) side so it was furled and stowed easily and the jib poled out but as the wind swung to the East and strengthened it was set normally with one reef in the main. I'm heading a little more to the North to make sure of getting in the trades at 20 degrees South and dodging a looming blue hole.
