The Battle to Midway
24 July 2019 | 330 Miles South East of Rodriguez
Day 47 8pm Wednesday 24th July 2019 ( UTC +5 )
With the exotic islands Rodriguez and Mauritius of the Western Indian Ocean just a few days sail away it is easy to think you are well on the way to crossing said Ocean. If, however, you take the midpoint of the longitudes of Cape Leeuwin at 115E and Cape Aguhlas at 20E you arrive at the longitude of 67 30' E which we should also arrive at in the next few hours making it Midway across the Indian Ocean. It's been an uphill battle climbing up from downunder but the next few weeks should see a nice easy slide down past Port Elizabeth to Cape Aguhlas with the assistance of it's ever reliable namesake current. So now you can see where the O comes from on my sail number - Optimist Bill Hatfield.
