A Comfortable Day
04 August 2019 | 630 Miles East of Durban, South Africa
Day 58 8pm Sunday 4th August 2019 ( UTC +3 )
A quiet night on the wind which gradually strengthened to about 15 knots which was comfortably handled by the full main and jib and steered faultlessly by the Windpilot making over six knots. The water maker was run today and soon had both SS tanks pressed so with this taken care of 4 1/2 more hours had 24 litres set aside to do some washing. I have found in the past that doing the washing in salt water had the result that the clothes never seemed to dry properly and were also a bit itchy. The Icom AIS is performing faultlessly with class B fishing boats showing out to 12 miles and large ships on occasion out to 48 miles but always seen at the screen range of 24 miles. I am also enamoured of the Echomax radar enhancer/ transponder and would say to any yachtsman going offshore or just overnight coasting these are essential items of equipment.
