Hard On The Wind

As the wind increased during the night sail was reduced with the storm staysail furled at 2am but we were still making reasonable time under the double reefed main alone. The photo shows our first glimpse of the South African mainland taken from about 8 miles off. There was 80 metres of water under the keel at the time and as can be seen quite a bit above it. The storm staysail was tried when we changed course to the South at noon but things got a bit willing so was put away. The wind should ease shortly when we will change course again to the West.
