Checking on the weather last night after dinner the iPad was having trouble linking to the Iridium. Although the pilot light was on on the USB 12 v converter the Iridium battery was soon found to be flat though 12v was indicated in the circuit. At this time we were just rounding the end of the Agulhas Bank and though not really rough the swells were large and in the troughs the Windpilot lost its way and L'Eau Commotion started chasing her tail much to my consternation as I was jammed amongst many boxes in the f'csl looking for the leak. I set the autopilot but still had a restless night keeping an eye out for the many South African trawlers. After breakfast the f'csl was cleaned out and the fault discovered - this cheap and nasty connection where you lay the two wires side by side and clamp the fitting together which at the same time cuts the insulation with a knife edge to make the circuit. Wrap loosely in electrical tape to hold any drips and you wonder how it lasted this long. Much muttering issued forth from up the sharp end where every bounce seemed to be multiplied but a proper connection was made. Now also on this circuit was the electric toilet with its attendant problems. Tell the boys from the bucket brigade they can chuck it. And Wazza tell Tubby to be at 16W on Friday three weeks hence to see whether I am unduly optimistic.
