6:00pm Thursday 2nd November 2017 ( UTC-2 ) After settling down last night I decided to carry a double reefed main through the rest of the night night but by morning it was obviously not enough. A little breezy now and then in the showers but mostly just enough wind to maintain a course. Some time was spent drifting aimlessly. No luck with diverting power supply to the wind instrument so it's been left to recuperate. What I thought last night might have been frayed lines used to shorten sail just turned out to be wraps of adjusting cord wound up by the shaking. Everything else seems OK. No amount of finessing would have got me through this frustrating ITCZ - it stretches continuously right across the Atlantic from West Africa to Brazil but hopefully we will be through by Saturday. An interesting side affect of these massive thunderheads is that they interfere with the Iridium communication system which is also slightly less efficient due to the wider spacing at the Equator of the Polar orbits of the low height satellites and hence I couldn't get my blog out last night. The almost full moon looks a little gritty tonight and I hope it's because of the Sahara dust in the North East Trades. Wishful thinking?
