Surging Along
25 August 2019 | 570 Miles South East of St Helena
Day 79 8pm Sunday 25th August 2019 ( UTC +0 )
With the South East Trade Wind firming the second reef was put in the mainsail after breakfast and fully stowed after lunch, leaving just the BiSymmetric poled to Port and the green side sheeted to the boom well out to Starboard. This combination has us averaging over seven knots and should handle the expected increase in the wind through the night from its present 18 knots to 22 knots. There is the frequent surge down the wave and resultant roll but so far no tendency to round up and these conditions are expect to continue for the foreseeable future. And yes, Steve, the nominated turn point is the island of Hierro which is still short of the halfway point of my proposed route by about 800 miles. The shortest distance back to Southport on the Great Circle would take us too close to too many icebergs.
