This is the sail that has been hauling, sometimes unwillingly, L'Eau Commotion towards the equator. You won't find the word in any nautical almanac as I made it up, being a combination of two Asymmetric spinnakers. It is just twice the size of the Asymmetric spinnaker that Jesse and Adrian of Switch sails made up for L'Eau Commotions recent circumnavigation and which I blew up in the doldrums not that far from here. In that last run up to St Helena I used the jib poled out and the Asymmetric sheeted to the end of the boom and thought what a good idea it would be to have just one sail so Switch sails made this one up. What is not so obvious is that the pole is sheeted well aft and the both Port and Starboard sheets are quite free as a means of depowering the sail as I am sure the breeze from dead astern is a good 25 knots and I really shouldn't be surfing the waves at 14 to 16 and occasionally 18 knots. Mind you when I had to go to the mast to adjust the spinnaker pole I found it exhilarating to see the yacht beneath my feet streaming along.
